Local Tracks offer summer deals for fans

May 14, 2010MANSFIELD -- Saving money gets the green flag again this summer.
Initiated last year by the Mansfield/Richland County Convention & Visitors Bureau, fans who come to the races at Mansfield Motorsports Park and Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course can find deals at several locations around the city and region.
Aptly named Race Deals '10, race-day patrons can save 10 percent on motel stays, get discounts and freebies at restaurants and even find savings at other attractions in the area.
Fans who want to take part should visit the revamped ExperienceMotorsports.com Web site and find participating motels, restaurants and entertainment venues.
When reserving a room, visitors should mention Race Deals '10 to get the discount. On checkout, they'll get another 15 percent off a return trip to the area in the offseason.
Showing credentials or tickets at restaurants and other attractions in the program is enough to get the deal, too.
Both tracks are getting into the spirit by adding deals of their own. MMP and Mid-Ohio will admit kids 12-and-younger free if they come with a paying adult.
ExperienceMotorsports.com also has a schedule for both tracks, plus news, links and photo albums from race fans.
Mid-Ohio and KTM North America are adding another day for the arrive-and-ride program called Race_Orange Track Day Experience. The April 26 and 27 and July 7 and 19 dates filled, so they added July 8 to the docket.
"With four dates on the schedule in 2010 at Mid-Ohio compared to two last year, we thought we had met the demand for this program," said KTM Product Line manager John Hinz. "After selling out the July dates well in advance and seeing the April dates fill up as well, clearly there is great enthusiasm to ride KTMs at a world-class track like Mid-Ohio."
Riders will get the chance to tryout KTM's latest models on the closed course, models like the 1190 RC8R, 1190 RC8, 990 SMR and 690 Duke.
Riders of all skill levels are encouraged to participate as they will be split into novice, intermediate and advanced groups. They'll get four 20-minute sessions throughout the day.
The track day program costs $275 and only 60 spots are available. Visit MidOhioSchool.com to reserve a space.
