Mansfield Motorsports 2010 schedule
May 17, 20102010 Upcoming Season
Mansfield Motorsports Park has always found itself in that uncomfortable position of trying to decide if it was a special event only track or a weekly track with some special events. Track owner Mike Dzurilla believes they have finally found a niche that is a comfortable fit for not only the track but also for the competitors and the fans. This year they will produce eight shows over a fourteen week racing season with seven different styles of racing spread over the summer months.
In hopes of missing as much of the early spring bad weather as possible MMP will open on Saturday June 5th with the brand new NASCAR style Bounty Late Model Series and the Modifieds. Opening day will be rife with pomp and pageantry with sky divers, a possible military fly-by, the usual special guests, a huge Transformer eating and burning cars, the Euclid Beach Rocket Car giving rides to lucky winners, face painters, tons of gifts tossed into the grandstands and our very own track mascot.
The track reopens two weeks later with the unbelievable Main Event Super Late Models and a 75-lap feature event. For the first time ever this division will run heat events as well as a feature. Along with the Main Event the track is proud to bring back the Modifieds for some exciting Bowman-Grey style action.
Switching gears for the summer’s most important holiday brings a huge night of exciting entertainment on Saturday July the 3rd. It’s the MONSTER MASH & FIREWORKS SHOW and it’s really big. Twelve, I say twelve unbelievable fire breathing Monster Trucks performing before a packed house. And you thought only planes could fly! For the first time ever in the history of Monster Truck shows as a grand finale all twelve trucks will free style at the same time using the entire infield and track. Along with the trucks will be Lauren Hofmann, the world’s only female Human Bomb, blowing herself up and out of a casket on the front straightaway; an auto roll-over, the incredible Wall of Steel stunt and for the first time ever an actual bright yellow full-size school bus filled with kids from the grandstands attempting a world record jump over a long line of custom bikes. The kids will be provided with helmets just in case. If you think that’s a great show wait just one minute. We can’t give you a pair of Ginzu knives but in honor of the holiday we sure can give you one of our famous huge ‘gotta see’ Fireworks Shows. We try to match the Night Under Fire show every year and we think this year we might just have them. The show doesn’t end when you think it does. The after show party is not only suited for kids, it’s based around them. All the show participants will be available for pictures and autographs and the music won’t stop until the dancing does. This is the ‘do not miss’ entertainment show of the summer season.
We give you two weeks to catch your breath and bring you back on Saturday July 17th for the second annual Tim Richmond Memorial race featuring the nationally famous ARCA ReMax/Menard racing series and an extra lap Modified event. The late Tim Richmond was not only one of the greatest NASCAR drivers of all times but he was also a native of Ashland, Ohio. This particular event is very exciting, very upscale and very dear to the many who pay homage to the man it has been named for. There is quite a bit going on in the display area at this show. It’s quite an event to see.
There is quite a bit going on in the middle of the summer at racing facilities around Ohio like the Night Under Fire at Summit Motorsports Park and the Supermodified Hi-Miler at Sandusky Speedway so we elected to take three weeks off so no one misses their favorite mid-summer race whether it is at a drag strip or an oval track.
MMP returns to action on August 7th with the second running of the Bounty Late Models, the Modifieds and for the first time this year the pick-up trucks return. These short-wheel based dynamos race four wide nose to tail around Mansfield never lifting the pedal off the floor.
Things get busy in August and so does MMP. Without a weekend to waste we come right back with the Johnny Appleseed Supermodified Nationals on August the 14th for the only appearance all year of those ground pounding, fire breathing monsters of the night. Hide the women and children it’s those outlaws of the racing world, it’s the Supermodifieds in all their glory. These fender-less beasts that weigh practically nothing with an enormous methanol powered high horsepower engine dangling precariously off one side of the chassis and tires so wide you could serve a picnic lunch for eight on them put on quite a show. With huge wings bolted to the roll cages these petite machines are definitely in the category of one of the fastest forms of racing in the world. Also on the program will be the always popular Modified division. In honor of the birthplace of Johnny Appleseed and the Johnny Appleseed race returning to Mansfield there will be free apples and apple cider for all the fans.
Coming back for their second appearance of the year the outlaw body Main Event Late Model Series will be racing a 100-lap event on the 21st of August. Joining them will be the Modifieds for their Season Championship race and the Truck Series. This will be an excellent event for the racing purist and the last racing event of the year.
That leaves only one event to end the season and it will be the return of the highly popular Summer Firestorm on Labor Day weekend, Saturday night, September the Fourth and all of Richland, Ashland and surrounding counties will head for Mansfield Motorsports Park and the show of the year. A guaranteed sellout and a night of unbelievable entertainment for those that get there early enough to find a seat or a place on the hill to watch the show.
Monster Trucks, the World’s Only Female Human Bomb Lauren Hofmann, cars rolling over, blowing up, flying through the air into and through house trailers; an auto demo derby, a motorcycle demo derby and maybe even an airplane demo derby. The word is that the STARBOYZ plan to show up for a repeat performance of their spectacular motorcycle show from last year. You just can’t finish off the event or the year without one of MMP’s patented Fireworks shows. Heralded by everyone as the most spectacular fireworks exhibition ever put on in the area it will be the perfect end of the year for Mansfield Motorsports Park and all its fans.
