Here it is!!

Mike Dzurilla, owner of Mansfield Motorsports Park, has come up with a whole new way of doing business and keeping the competitors and the fans happy. In the past fans bought their tickets and sat in the stands to watch the races. That was about it! The competitors paid about twice as much and got to go into the pits. What always happened was that due to the expense Dad spent the evening in the pits and Mom sat by herself in the grandstands fighting with her four kids over whose turn it was to hold the one box of popcorn. The average ticket costs for one pit pass, one adult general admission ticket and four half price kids tickets came to about $66 and the family spent the evening apart.

So one day last winter when things were really slow Mike says... “Let’s level the playing field!”

Since Mansfield was planning on running only special events the cheapest ticket price was going to be $20 and go up from there. Well here it is, ticket price are now slashed to $15 across the board and I do mean everywhere including the pits. Kids that had not reached their teenage years were absolutely free. Think of it, instead of paying $74 the whole family got in for $30.

Let’s take this one step further. A race team usually brings six crew members with the car. That would have been $180 but now its $90. The trade off is that now race cars pay an entry fee of $35 bringing the total to $125 which is still a savings of $55. If you are confused go back and read it a couple more times and the light bulb should go off in your head. “Hey, that’s a pretty good deal!”

Now for the biggie! That $15 you paid to get a seat in the grandstand bought you an all-grounds pass. What the heck is that you ask? It is what it is. You may wander wherever you want except on the track itself of course. Here is a perfect example: The kids are tired and you came to the track in the hauler. Take them back to what is now called the paddock area, put them up for their naps and while you are there fire up the Barbie and cook up some lunch. While the food is cooking bring out a folding chair and sit back with some friends in the shade and relax. Let’s remember that 5000 other grandstand ticket holders have the same all-grounds pass you have so it might get a bit busy at times. It will feel like you have been transported to an NHRA National event where they do this kind of thing all the time except with 40,000 fans.

As for financial gain, I recommend the race teams get some hats and T’s ready to sell with your pix on them. Sales should be brisk and the track doesn’t ask for a commission. Lots of freebies here. The track doesn’t charge for those nice concrete pads you get to park on or to register your number or to inspect your car or to join some kind of association. They do charge $10 to rent a scoring transponder if the car doesn’t already have one. You make that up on the first T-shirt you sell.

Well that’s it for today’s hot tips from the always growing Mansfield Motorsports Park. We sure hope we see you all at the track this summer
